Golden week in Japan

Hi everyone !
The Golden week ( GW ) is coming ! did you hear about that ? In japan, the GW is a collection of 4 national holidays within 7 days. GW is considering as one of the most Japanese's busiest holiday' seasons, besides New year and Obon week in august. Transportation ( shinkansen, trains ) airports and sightseeing spots get very crowed during these days. If you are looking for accommodation during the GW, you should book in advance in the tourist areas.
The national holidays making up the GW are :

- April 29 : Showa day ( showa no hi )
celebration of the birthday of former emperor showa, who died in the year1989

- May 3 : Constitution day ( Kenpo kinenbi )
the new postwar constitution was put on effect in 1947.

- May 4 : Greenery day ( Midori no hi )
the day is dedicated to the environment and nature, because the emperor loves  nature and plants.

- May 5 : Children's day ( kodomo no hi )
The boy's Festival ( Tango no sekku ) is celebrated on this day. Families pray     for the health and future success of their sons by hanging up carps streamers and displaying samurai dolls, both symbolizing strength, power and success in life.

Also GW is an excellent time to visit Kyoto and walk around the city with a kimono. The temperature outside is still really cool and you can access to plenty of beautiful temples during this season.

Kyoto events in April

Hello !
The season of cherry blossoms is already finished, but still you can enjoy some events in Kyoto city. For example, the Geisha and the maiko of the Gion Kobu district still perform traditional spring dances with japanese musical accompaniment throughout the month of April. Spectators from all across Japan and the world are attending the event. Gion district geisha prefer to be called Geiko, which means a woman skilled in dance and music.
Also you can enjoy the beautiful light up scenes in some temples and shrines at night time during this month in Kyoto. For example, Kiyomizu Temple which one is the most popular and well known sightseeing spot in the city offers a spectacular view of the city from the wooden balcony until 13th of the month.
You can ride on the popular " sagano sightseeing tram ride " which one is running from Saga to Kameoka along a gorgeous river and passes through 8 old tunnels.
Every days as well you can ride on the boat and enjoy the Hozugawa Kudari river. The depart starts from Kameoka to Arashiyama ( about 16 km in 2 hours ) and it's a good opportunity to discover the beautiful landscape and some wonderful moutains views.

Even if the cherry blossoms season passed, April is one of the best month of the year to get dressed with a kimono and walk around in the city. Don't lose the chance to get this experience and come to visit us in KyotoKimonoRental41 we are waiting for you :)

Cherry blossom season in Kyoto

Hi everyone !
In japan, " sakura " means the cherry blossom's flower. During March and April,  japan is filled with very beautiful cherry blossoms all over the country. That's the reason why many foreigners are coming to Japan during this season. The most important factor to determinate the blooming time of the cherry trees is the geographical location. Generally, the milder of the climate, the earlier the blossoms open. Typically, in early April the cherry blossom's season takes place in Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo. Unfortunately the cherry blossom's season is relatively short. Full bloom ( mankai ) is usually reached after the opening of the first blossoms ( kaika ). The next week, the blooming peak is over and the blossoms are falling from the trees. In kyoto you have the opportunity to see many spots to enjoy the blooming of the cherry blossoms trees, like Philosopher's path or Arashiyama. Also Heian shrine or Maruyama park offer some really good scenes.
" Hanami " is the centuries old practice of picnicking under the blooming sakura. People are usually eating lunch ( Bento ) and drinking sake with a convivial atmosphere.
Sakura season is also the best moment to dress up with kimonos and walk around the city.
