Gion Matsuri 2014 Ofune Boko revival
Hello !!
The biggest events of Gion Matsuri are the Yoiyama (14-16th) and the Yama Hoko Junko (17th). Yoiyama is kind of the previous parade. Each district display their Hoko or Yama floats in their districts to perform and treat the guests.
During the Gion Matsuri 32 floats are connected with neighborhoods in each district. There are 25 Yama floats which are the smaller float. They are normally carried by people on their shoulders.
There are also 7 Hoko float ( refer as Boko float as well ) which are pulled by 12 to 50 people.
In addition to the 32 Yama and Hoko floats joining the festival, there are three other floats which quietly join the festival every year. These floats are called Yasumi-yama which can't join the festival with floats for differents reasons. However in 2014, customers have a chance to see one of them called the "Ofune-boko" after 150 years of absence.
The current Gion Festival's parade called the Saki-matsuri (former festival) is held on July 17th. The second parade called the Ato-matsuri (latter festival) used to have the former Ofune-hoko as the last float. But this year people have the opportunity to see the Ato Matsuri with the former Ofune Hoko on July 24th.
Also many people are coming to enjoy the festival and see the parade with the traditional Yukata :)
